Son fils le duc Edmond de La Croix de Castries remania totalement l\u2019h\u00f4tel de 1843 \u00e0 1863. Edmond fut l\u2019aide de Camp du G\u00e9n\u00e9ral Davout. C\u2019est \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque que Stendhal y s\u00e9journa et d\u00e9crivit les lieux dans deux de ses romans : Le Rouge et le Noir (1830) et Vie de Henry Brulard (1835). Sans descendance, la veuve du Duc de Castries le revendit. Il fut r\u00e9quisitionn\u00e9 par les Domaines de France pour y loger des minist\u00e8res de la R\u00e9publique fran\u00e7aise. Plusieurs s\u2019y sont succ\u00e9d\u00e9 : Agriculture, Fonction publique, Ville, Am\u00e9nagement du territoire, Solidarit\u00e9s.
